Double-Cutting is a paperhanging technique used to obtain smooth seams. This is done by overlapping the edge of one strip of wallpaper on top the other strip until the image pattern is matched and aligned. Then a sharp blade is used to cut through both layers at the same time. The excess trimmed edges (from both strips) are then removed and the seam is smoothed out.
We allow for a 1 inch overlap of the image at each seam for this reason. Since our photo murals are printed in vertical strips approximately 48 inches wide, there will be a minimal number of seams in your photo mural.
Note: Most professional paperhangers we consulted prefer to work with 1 inch seam overlaps, so that is our standard overlap. If the paperhanger you are working with prefers a different overlap, just let us know when we are preparing your mural for printing.
